Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi Biography
Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi (born 1 March 1980 in Khyber Agency), popularly known as Shahid Afridi, is a Pakistani cricketer currently playing for the Pakistani national team in the international circuit. He made his ODI debut on 2 October 1996 against Kenya in Nairobi[1] and his Test debut on 22 October 1998 against Australia at Karachi.[2] He is known for his aggressive batting style, and currently holds the highest career strike rate in the history of international cricket. In a recent survey, Afridi was named as the most popular cricketer in Pakistan.[3] He also holds the record for the fastest one day century which he made in his debut innings, as well as scoring 32 runs in a single over, the second highest scoring over ever in an ODI.

Style

His general style of batting is very aggressive and attack oriented and has earned him the nickname “Boom Boom Afridi” for his fastest One Day International century just in 37 balls. As of 22 May 2007, he has an ODI strike rate of 109.38 runs per 100 balls, the highest in the game’s history. This attitude has been transferred to Test cricket as well, with Afridi scoring at a relatively high strike rate of 86.13 in Tests. He has an approach to batting that can change the tempo of a game and inspire the mood of an audience, as shown when a mass exodus of spectators occurred in Pakistan in late 2005 following his dismissal from the crease. He hits many sixes long and high, favoring straight down the ground or over midwicket. A trademark shot is a crossbatted flick to the leg-side to a ball outside off stump.[8]. This explosive style has led to some memorable shots, most notably the first ever 12 in power cricket in 2002, where Afridi successfully hit the roof. [9] However, his aggressive style increases his risk of getting out and he is one of the most inconsistent batsmen in cricket. This is reflected by the fact that he is the only player to score more than 5000 ODI runs at an average under 25.

jawed miandad

jawed miandad biography
Mohammad Javed Miandad Khan (born June 12, 1957), popularly called Javed Miandad, was born in Karachi, Pakistan. He had a long career as an international cricketer for Pakistan between 1975 and 1996, and had 3 mildly successful but controversial coaching runs with the team as well. He made his Test debut against New Zealand at Lahore on October 9, 1976 and one-day international debut against West Indies at Birmingham in Cricket World Cup 1975. He was named as one of the cricketers of the year in 1982 by Wisden.

Miandad made a glorious debut with a century and later slammed a double century in the same series to set up a new record of becoming the youngest ever to score a double century. Miandad created the record of scoring more than 100 runs on debut at the youngest age. He scored a century in his first appearance against India in the course of which he completed 1000 runs in 23 innings to become the second youngest to score 1000 runs at the age of 21 years and 26 days.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Javed Miandad played 124 Tests and had most innings for a Pakistani (189), scoring most runs for a Pakistani (8,832) with the best average for a Pakistani 52.57 with 23 centuries and 43 fifties. Miandad is one of only two batsmen (the other being Herbert Sutcliffe) to maintain an average of above 50 throughout a career of more than 20 innings. He scored six double centuries which are the maximum by a Pakistani, and had a highest score of 280 not out versus India.

Miandad was quite simply one of the greatest batsmen the game has known. His test batting average of over fifty was in an era when that meant something - bowling attacks were strong (he faced Denis Lillee, Richard Hadlee, and the great West Indians in his time) and no test nation was a walk-over (no Zimbabwe or Bangladesh then). Together with Imran Khan, Miandad helped Pakistan become the only team capable of taking on the might of the West Indies in the 1980s.
